Phagocytes (a type of white blood cell) are large and irregular shape,
and the fact that they can change shape, rather like an amoeba, ensure
they capable of engulfing foreign substances, such as bacteria, and
digesting them. This process is known as phagocytosis and it stops
the digested foreign particle doing any damage to its host.
